Stop for a second to think of what all goes into your fridge. Most of the time its condiments, fruits, and things like that. What you may not think about is that chicken you put in there to thaw last night? That bacteria can get transferred to the shelves of your refrigerator, if the package had even a miniscule hole. By cleaning the shelves frequently, this ensures that any bacteria on the shelves is killed.

I always start with the door and then work my way through the rest of the fridge. I take everything out of the door and remove the shelves. I scrub them with warm soapy water and follow that with a good coating of vinegar. I use vinegar because it disinfect things without the harshness of bleach. The vinegar smell seems to dissipate a lot quicker than bleach smell does and the vinegar won't make me sick if it gets on something. I wipe down the inside of the door and replace the shelves. I repeat this process with the rest of the shelves.
