How My Crochet Journey Began

Some people assume that I started crocheting because I saw one of the many people that are posting their creations on social media. Or that I saw something at a flee market or store of some kind. However, that would only be half true.

My desire to create, to make things with my hands, goes back many years. I would go to flee markets or yard sales where they would sell handmade products such as jewelry, pottery, and clothing. And I always felt a pang of jealousy as I listened to the seller describing the creation process. I could always tell that the seller enjoyed the process.

I was jealous because at the time I hadn't found anything that I was that passionate about. I couldn't seem to find anything that I was both halfway decent at and enjoyed. And I wanted so badly to be able to finally have something that I made. Even if I was the only one that got to enjoy the end products.

Eventually, I gave knitting a try and I found that I enjoyed the process and watching my project gradually get larger. I started crocheting a couple months later hoping that certain projects would be easier to complete. But even more than that, it made me feel closer to my grandmother and my husband's grandmother.

I had grown extremely close with my husbands grandmother in the handful of years I had with her. I wasn't old enough to really remember or learn anything from my own grandmother so she filled that roll. I'm told my own grandmother did it all. Crochet, knitting, sewing, macrame and more.
